The 15-Weakness Trading Journal: a 20-minute weekly review
A journal that only grades “good trade / bad trade” teaches the wrong lesson. Wins can hide broken process. Losses can come from a rule you followed correctly. ZUPIRUS education series posts #01–#15 name the recurring process failures we see in retail forex accounts. This article turns those fifteen named weaknesses into journal tags, then shows a 20-minute weekly review that counts each one — and ties cost and setup quality to two other ZUPIRUS tools: the True-Cost Kit (ZTC1 cost string) and the Net-Cost SMC Gate (net R:R ≥ 1.5 after costs).
No direction calls. No profit promises. Definitions below come from the education index and product guides on disk; nothing here invents a weakness name.
The fifteen weakness tags (use these exact labels)
Source: /workspace/trading/education/README.md series index. Detector codes in parentheses come from DETECTORS.md in the Fifteen Weaknesses Auditor.
| Tag | Education title | Detector code |
|---|---|---|
#01 | Why you keep losing: you have no goal | NO_GOAL |
#02 | Scalper or swing trader? Pick one | IDENTITY_CONFLICT |
#03 | Scalping entries with swing expectations | HORIZON_MISMATCH |
#04 | No consistent method = no edge | NO_METHOD |
#05 | Revenge trading | REVENGE |
#06 | Overtrading | OVERTRADING |
#07 | Moving your stop loss | STOP_WIDEN |
#08 | No journal | NO_JOURNAL |
#09 | Risk too big per trade | RISK_TOO_BIG |
#10 | Chasing signals blindly | CHASE_SIGNALS |
#11 | Ignoring news and spread | NEWS_SPREAD |
#12 | Cutting winners early | CUT_WINNERS |
#13 | Strategy hopping | STRATEGY_HOP |
#14 | Trading without a plan | NO_PLAN |
#15 | Unrealistic monthly % expectations | UNREALISTIC_PCT |
How to tag a closed trade: leave the weakness column empty if none applied. If one or more applied, write the tag IDs (for example #05,#07). Do not invent a sixteenth name. If you are unsure which article fits, re-read that file under /workspace/trading/education/ before tagging.
Replace the vague “plan followed? Yes/Partial/No” grade with these tags. Process review becomes: *which named weaknesses showed up this week?*
Journal fields (one row per closed trade)
| Field | What to write |
|---|---|
| Setup tag | Short label from your written method (example: SMC_OB_London) |
| Session | London / NY / Asia / overlap |
| Risk % | Planned equity risk if stop hits |
| Stop distance | Price units from entry to invalidation (before size) |
| Weaknesses | Empty, or #01–#15 IDs that applied |
| ZTC1 / cost | Paste or store the True-Cost Kit ZTC1 string used for that symbol (see below), or “live only” |
| Net R:R check | Did the setup meet net R:R ≥ 1.5 after round-trip costs? pass / fail / n/a |
| Result in R | Net P&L ÷ planned risk dollars |
Optional one-line note only if needed (“#07: widened stop after London open”).
Cost audit uses the True-Cost Kit ZTC1 string
Source: True-Cost Kit Store guide. The Kit reconstructs all-in costs from your cTrader history (round-turn spread charged once as full bid–ask width, plus commission, swap, and slippage when quotes allow). On the Store build it emits a compact checksummed ZTC1 token you can copy, for example:
ZTC1|XAUUSD|spread=0.17|comm=0.01|swap=0|slip=0|n=6|ts=2026-10-31T15:00:00Z|chk=…
(Example format from the Store guide; your values will differ.)
Weekly cost audit step: for each symbol you traded, paste or file the latest ZTC1 string beside that week’s rows. Compare average R after those costs. When History cannot rebuild slippage, the Kit surfaces insufficient_quote_data — do not invent a slippage figure.
Setup check: net R:R ≥ 1.5 (Net-Cost SMC Gate)
Source: Net-Cost SMC Gate Lite guide. The Gate arms a setup only when structure confluence and net R:R ≥ 1.5 after round-trip costs (one full bid–ask width + commission + optional swap). It accepts an optional True-Cost paste (ZTC1 token); invalid or stale tokens fall back to live quotes, and the Gate uses the conservative max(live, fed) cost.
In the journal: mark whether the setup meets net R:R ≥ 1.5 using the ZTC1 (or live) cost for that symbol (pass / fail). Do not treat Gate “ARM” as a performance claim — it is a pre-trade filter. Same guides describe the loop: Auditor → True-Cost Kit (#11 + ZTC1) → Gate Lite.
Fifteen Weaknesses Auditor (optional helper)
Source: Fifteen Weaknesses Auditor guide + DETECTORS.md.
The Fifteen Weaknesses Auditor is a cTrader Desktop plugin that reads account trade history and optional trade Comment tags, then runs all 15 named detectors mapped to the education series. The panel shows `N/15 rules active`, per-rule on/off reasons, and findings. CSV export is in the full/IB build only; the Store build shows an on-screen table you can copy. It flags rule-break patterns. It does not read emotions. It does not block orders.
- Automatic from History:
#05Revenge,#06Overtrading,#09Risk too big,#12Cutting winners. - Tag-dependent (need Comment tags / metadata):
#01,#02,#03,#04,#07,#08,#10,#11,#13,#14,#15.
You can use the Auditor findings (CSV in the full/IB build, or the copyable on-screen table in the Store build) to fill weakness tags on journal rows after the fact. Educational only: coverage depends on History depth and tags; soft rules stay inactive until enough tagged trades exist. Not a performance score.
The 20-minute weekly review
Block one quiet slot. Do not re-trade every chart. Run these steps in order.
1. Count each weakness #01–#15 (6 minutes)
From the Weaknesses column, tally how many closed trades hit each ID. Write a 15-cell strip:
#01:0 #02:1 #03:0 … #15:2
Sort by count. Your review target is the top one or two IDs, not all fifteen. If #08 (No journal) is high, fix logging before strategy work. If #11 (Ignoring news and spread) leads, move to the cost step with ZTC1 before changing entries.
2. Cost audit with ZTC1 (4 minutes)
For each active symbol, confirm you have a current ZTC1 string from the True-Cost Kit (or an explicit “live only” note). Recompute or re-read average R after those costs. If #11 findings and high ZTC1 costs line up, the journal’s job is to ban or shrink entries in expensive windows — not to hope spreads tighten.
3. Net R:R ≥ 1.5 pass rate (4 minutes)
Among setups you intended to take, what share logged pass on the Gate’s net R:R ≥ 1.5 check? A high fail share means you are still entering trades the Gate would leave unarmed. One rule change: no new live entry unless net R:R ≥ 1.5 after the ZTC1/live cost you actually use.
4. Session filter (3 minutes)
Group residual R by session. If one session concentrates #05, #06 or #11, add a hard session filter.
5. One rule change (3 minutes)
Write exactly one change for next week, tied to the top weakness ID or to the net R:R fail share. Examples grounded in the series titles:
#05→ cool-down after a loss before any new ticket#07→ stop edits only via a pre-written rule, never by drag#09→ hard cap at the risk % in your plan- Net R:R fails → no entry below 1.5 after ZTC1
More than one change makes next week’s counts unreadable.
Starter checklist
Before the next live trade:
- Setup tag exists in the written method
- Risk % decided before size
- Net R:R ≥ 1.5 after round-trip cost (ZTC1 paste or live), per Net-Cost SMC Gate rule
- After close: weakness tags
#01–#15only if earned; ZTC1/cost field filled
Before next week’s review:
- Counts for all fifteen IDs written
- ZTC1 strings current for symbols traded
- Net R:R pass rate computed
- Exactly one rule change written
